Since Amanda is a sassy, cool, rockin’ chic of a singer, I felt it appropriate to capture her style both in personality and the style of her music. ¬†It is imperative that the photographer should assess the “client” and what message they want to send to their fans/viewers so that both the photographer and client have a common understanding before the actual shoot. ¬†I was very excited when Amanda came to me wanting me to photograph her photos for her CD’s, website, and other marketing materials. ¬†Most of my work is focused on weddings which I enjoy, but it’s also nice when I am given the chance to be creative and funky with my camera. ¬†I had so much fun with Amanda’s shoot not only because she gave me total freedom to photograph her how I wanted to, but I loved her fun, sweet and genuine personality too! ¬†
As you noticed in Part A (post right below this one), Amanda wore an adorable dress communicating she is sweet, cute, adorable, beautiful and sexy; but in Part B of our session, she is also sassy, hip, cool, hot and feisty.  The grungy look for a singer is quite fitting for her style, so our next portion of her shoot was to depict this all.
Below you will see the SAME image in three different color tones.  Giving the client options of the same image not only gives them more opportunities to utilize their photo for any particular marketing need they might have but it also shows them what you are capable of producing.
Here is the wall we used for these shots…
Now although the wall next to the dark doors consisted of bright blue and yellow colors, I toned it down in photoshop in order to keep with the feel of her grungy outfit.
You can diminish the saturation of any image by altering the temperature, tint, and saturation options in the Raw Dialog Box with photoshop.  You can see below what my settings were to accomplish this look.
Now although I like the image with this pail look to it, I also wanted to produce something completely opposite like this by increasing contrast and the shadows in levels.
Increasing your shadows, contrast and levels will certainly darken the image as so.  So again, now the client has two totally different photos to choose from according to what her marketing needs are.
Changing the vibrant blue wall to a blue that has more character/emotion to it like the one I’ve created below is quite fitting for a rad singer! ¬†: )¬†
The next three images are similar using different color tones. ¬†I do not use actions when it comes to colors. ¬†Each image I edit in photoshop is on an individual basis. ¬†I play around with the temperatures, hues, shadows, vibrance, saturation and the color sliding scales until I nail down the look I want. ¬†There is no set formula; however, once you get excited about something you’ve made, you can certainly save your settings in the Raw Dialog box under presets. ¬†Keep in mind one negative thing though, the preset savings will only work on the images within that shoot. ¬†Using those settings on a shoot you do at another time won’t produce the same results. ¬†Sadly, you’ll have to start over each time. ¬†
Here’s the inside scoop onto how I mustered up the above look!
Here are some fun photos to enjoy looking at…
Next I added more color and contrast to bring about a different form of “art” in this photo below of Amanda…
Me in action : )
Remember my question a few posts ago?
What lighting was used for these images?
The one who guessed it right was….

drum roll….

Beth Morgan! ¬†You were right girl… here’s my sophisticated, highly expensive lighting equipment (truly it is, I am still paying off such lighting equipment LOL… : ) ¬†It’s fun to improvise and be creative though!
I pulled up my van to use my headlights as soon as I saw this grafiti wall. ¬†I wanted to highlight her face and use the dark background to captivate and steal her audience’s attention… and I must say I think I did a pretty darn good job of it! : )
Classic Black and White…
Photo below TAKEN AS IS… (before)
After
Singers often use color redish/orangish hues… so I had to sprinkle some reds and oranges on this next photo…¬†
